Lolland Kommune
Wise Energy. Tomorrow’s solutions are to be found on Lolland. Developing and testing of innovative technology, new initiatives and updating of existing projects have been invested in here. Today Lolland has a strong position within the renewables sector. Wind turbines produce more electricity than Lolland can use. District heating plants run on household waste, straw and wood chips. Coastal protection and other direct initiatives for climate adaptation are being established, as are new wind, water, hydrogen and biomass projects, all of which attracts researchers, businesses and other interested parties to Lolland. As an energy tourist it is possible to hug a 120 metre high offshore wind turbine – onshore! It is a great way to get a close-up experience of the size and force of nature that future green technology has to work with.
Lolland Community Testing Facilities is a strategic business platform. All relevant companies wishing to establish themselves can request to be part of Lolland CTF. In this way the company can work in close relationship with the municipality, researchers and other innovative companies and n established network. Lolland CTF can offer unique possibilities for companies coming to Lolland to test and develop new technologies and products in the many and well stablished test and demonstration plants. Lolland CTF gives the companies a head start to product development, testing and demonstration, which is aimed to result in fast track access to the commercialisation of new methods, components or products. All test and demonstration plants are on a full scale in authentic conditions and in working order. You can see more here.

Bornholm - Bright Green Island

The island of Bornholm has the goal of becoming a 100 % sustainable and CO2 neutral society - we call this vision Bright Green Island. For a fully functional society with 43.000 inhabitants to reach this goal, planning, overall involvement and action is vital, and Bornholm is already well under way. The strategic starting point is one of the most ambitous energy strategies in Europe that lays out how Bornholm will have 77 % of the island's energy supply coming from renewable energies by 2025. The strategic fundament combined with a strong public-private cooperation, the development and use of innovative energy-friendly technologies, a row of present and coming green projects, and a business plan that ensures the profitability of the transformation, makes the vision realistic. Bornholm has a huge potential as a development and testing area for new renewable energy technologies. The island corresponds to about 1 % of Denmark in land area, load and population. The island's system can be isolated from the interconnected Nordic grid, and thus a power system with truly high wind power penetration can be studied. Its power system, with more than 30 % wind power penetration and unique potential for isolated operation in island-mode, makes it a terrific full-scale laboratory for future intelligent power systems. This attracts attention from both Denmark and abroad and has established projects such as the 2. generation bioethanol project BornBioFuel, and the Danish Technological University's project to test electric cars, on the island. The different energy projects of Bornholm has the attention of the Danish government and the Danish Minister of Climate and Energy who believes that Bornholm can contribute to changing Denmark into a society that is completely independent of fossil fuels.

Wether you are interested in specific technologies or projects, strategy and planning of societal transformation, creating green growth, or you are seeking general information and inspiration, Bornholm is worth a visit. We have a solid experience in handling energy tours and we will be happy to arrange your visit as well - tailormade of course! Find more information at www.brightgreenisland.com
